Heres an excellent tip...
Ever been to the $1 stores here in NE Ohio? Yes? Good...
Then youve seen many of the 2600 & 7800 Atari games there for sale
for only $1, new and in the original boxes... Weeeelllllll...
Go to one of the "It's a dollar" stores (Like the one at Southland)
and pick up one of the 7800 carts that says "SUPER GAME CARTRIDGE"
(Ballblazer, Hat Trick, Karatika, etc..) and buy it... in fact buy 3 or 4...
Go home (unless your really impatient, then you can do it in the car,
or even at the register.... mabey call ahead... yea.. :) ) and...
open up the cart and inside youll find not only the program ROM but a
new shiny POKEY chip! (these are all soldered to the board but can easily
be removed w/ a soldiering iron & solder sucker), great for the
Stereo XL upgrade or a quick fix for that old broken xl in the closet...
I used one to repair the 800XL im using now and it works great!
Part # on the new POKEY is: AMI 8810MHR
CO12294B-01
CO3051
(C)
PHILIPPINES
Ive run every piece of software i have(including AMS, POKEYPLAYER, etc..)
and the chip works fine!
Not bad for a buck eh?
ATARI LIVES!!! ahahahahahahahahaha
