I can confirm this. Yes, the 1020 is capable of printing text.
It's even set to text mode by default. Usually you can switch between
printing in either 20, 40 or 80 characters per line. In text mode
the 1020 is compatible to any Atari text printer, especially to the 1027
printer. I've even printed some documents destined for the 1027
with the 1020 out of SpeedScript.
