will a Conner hard drive mech. with a IDE controller 
work on my Atari ST?

There is an IDE controller for the ST available in Europe, but to the
best of my knowledge, it's not available in the USA yet. I believe,
though, it was on the expensive side, even if you could get one.

The "standard" ST disk configuration is a SCSI drive with an ICD
(or maybe an old Supra) ST-to-SCSI adaptor.

But the price and availability of those IDE drives sure look attractive.
It would be nice if those adaptors became available in the USA.
