Hi all,

Just installed the Innovative Concepts XEGS memory upgrade this
past weekend to make my bargain computer ($5.00 !!!) compatible
with the 130xe. The upgrade is not for the neophyte, but does
work well. It took me a little over an hour to do the job, and
I am an electronic technician by trade.

You might be wondering (as I was) how the upgrade is done, since
the XEGS doesn't have the same RAM chip configuration as the
rest of the Atari 8 bit line. Well, all the memory is in two
64k x 4 ram chips located on the lower left-hand corner of the
board. By piggy-backing two more chips, and adding a bunch of
wires connected to the PIA and Antic chips (as well as a small
ttl chip they've call a CUSTOM chip), the upgrade is made to
work just like the 130xe. I am satisfied with the results, but
was just a bit dissapointed that I couldn't substitute some
256k x 4 ram chips for the ones supplied, as the 64k jobs are
18 pin, and the 256k chips are 20 pin .... nuts! (an extra
data line.)

Oh well, if you've further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Bill
