In an article on page 95 of the
April (No. 53) Analog he state of a
defect in the XM301 which interfers withdisk drive data transfers.

I have this problem and the article mentions that by
installing some resistors the problem
can be cured. Does anyone know what
resistors and where to install them.

                        Thanks,
                        Frank Carotenuto

        Thanks for answering your own
question for me off line, Frank. For
the rest of you, here it is:
 1. Buy 3 resistors: all 470 ohm/ 1/4 watt (if you don't
             know what that is, don't
             try this!).
        2. Open XM301 case--THIS VOIDS
             YOUR WARRANTY!
        3. Where the SIO cable meets the PC board, label and de-
             solder wires 3, 9, and 13.
        4. Solder the resistors (one end only) into the 3 new holes.
        5. Solder the wires onto the
other end of the resistors
             in the matching holes.

        This procedure buffers the
critical data lines from the computer
and drives. It should prevent any more
interferance with the drives (and maybe
the printers, too)!
