Is Ymodem compatable with the Atari 8 bit computers? What is
the advandages of Ymodem verses modem?

Let's start with the second half of your question. I'm not sure of the
technical details, but the differences
between the various _modem transfer
protocols is the way in which the
transfer program does its checksum.
There is no reason that Ymodem should
fail to work on 8-bit Atari's, but you
would be very lonely with it: to my
knowledge there are no people using it
and no programs that support it.
        Most current Atari 8-bits use
ASCII (no error checking), Xmodem, or
Amodem. The last two are nearly--but
not quite--identical.
